The Asbury Park Dog Beach is a designated area for dogs and their owners to enjoy the beach together. To access the beach, visitors should use the Deal Lake Drive Entrance. It is important to note that dogs are not permitted on the dunes and should be kept off of them.
The beach has specific hours for when dogs are allowed, which vary depending on the time of year. From May 16th through September 14th, dogs are only allowed on the AP Dog Beach after 6pm and before 8:30am. During this time, dogs are not permitted on the Boardwalk or any other beaches except for the AP Dog Beach. From September 15th through May 15th, dogs are allowed on the AP Dog Beach at all hours. Additionally, during this time, dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk as long as they are licensed, supervised, and leashed. However, it should be noted that dogs are still not permitted on any beaches other than the AP Dog Beach.
When visiting the beach, dogs must wear collars with valid dog licenses. They may be off-leash on the AP Dog Beach only if they are properly supervised. Dogs that become aggressive or uncontrollable must be immediately leashed and removed from the area.
The responsibilities of dog handlers are also important to note. They must remain with their dogs and supervise them at all times. They are strictly liable for any incidents that occur involving their dog. Furthermore, they are required to pick up after their dogs immediately. Offenders may be subject to summonses and fines up to $1,000.
